Everything you need to write about Ascension. If something is missing, just ask.

Short description

Ascension is a 2D action RPG in which five youths from five different peoples are called on the same night, and end up discovering why their world has been split in three for generations.

Long description

Elyndor is spread across three layers — surface, underdeep and sky — that were connected generations ago and today decay separately. Nobody quite remembers what separated them, and the three races who fought that war tell different versions of what happened.

Five youths who have never met receive the same call on the same night. Each has their own playable prologue, origin and motives; the player chooses who to start with, and the other four still exist in the world, join the party and react according to who is leading the run.

The whole game is told as a book a chronicler is writing: starting a run is opening the book, pausing is turning a page, saving is writing in it.

Features

  • Five playable heroes, each with their own prologue, origin and motives.
  • Three world layers — surface, underdeep and sky — now separated, and all three are travelled in full.
  • Combat built on shield, parry and stamina; enemies change behaviour, not stats, based on your archetype.
  • Five minigames with genuinely different mechanics — forging, campfire cooking, cards, tavern rhythm and racing — each tied to its own economy.
  • A pact system: some creatures can be bargained with instead of killed.
  • Multiple endings, shaded by who leads the party and which bonds they nurtured.
